Virginity

Virginity is normally the state of a person who has not engaged in sexual intercourse. Most cultures and religions place some special significance especially on female virginity being associated with purity, honor and worth.

Can you tell a virgin woman?

The answer is no. Many men have the misconception that young ladies are more likely to be virgins but it is possible to have a woman over 30 years old and still a virgin. Social interactions cannot differentiate a virgin and non-virgin woman.

Physical virginity and hymen

Hymen is a membrane of tissue that surrounds or partially covers the vaginal opening. The presence of hymen is generally thought to be an indicator of virginity, a concept that is entirely wrong. The hymen can be lacerated by disease, injury, exercises, medical examination or masturbation. Many religions and cultures think that during first time sex a lady must bleed to signify the loss of virginity. The truth is, some women don’t bleed at all during first sexual intercourse, and some don’t experience any pain. For some reason, some women are born without a hymen. Thus the presence of a hymen is not an indicator of virginity.

Some women also have sufficiently elastic hymen which only expands during sex and may return to nearly its original condition with abstinence.

Factors that could cause pain or bleeding during first sexual intercourse

  • Arousal level: If the man penetrates before the woman is sufficiently aroused, the resulting trauma may cause pain or lead to hymen breaking.
  • Anxiety: Most people are not well relaxed for the first time. This means even the vaginal muscles are tensed thus pain or bleeding may result.
  • Penis thickness: Some penises are just thicker than average and could hurt even an otherwise sexually experienced woman if rough penetration is done.
  • The man factor: Some men are naturally rough during sex which does not help during first time intercourse.
  • Hymen strength: Some women have very strong and inelastic hymens that must tear during sex, and to some they must be surgically removed for intercourse to be possible.

When a lady is relaxed, sufficiently aroused, and the man is gentle enough, even first time intercourse can be less hectic since the hymen will just expand and give way gently, and with constant sex, just expand further or disappear.
